Sign, sign, everywhere a sign…

The song talked about many of the “negative” implications of signage. Me, I think about the Burma Shave signs or the signs telling you that it was only 300 miles to Shortys! {{more}}

When I was in retail, I made signs nearly every day. To promote sales, ask questions or provoke conversation. I used blackboards, newsprint and sometime later whiteboards and electric signs. I had friends who put pink flamingos all around their store in Vermont. One holiday weekend, I cut out yellow bird prints and had them lead to my store. (Little kids leading their parents… Works every time. )

Signs. So many using them to move their brand, promote their sales. I often run across fun ones. I am sure many of you do as well.

A few days ago, I became aware of a “sign war” that had started in Christiansburg, Virginia. A challenge. “Want to have a sign war?” It has gone viral! Over 13,000 folks in their Facebook page! And the signs keep coming and keep getting funnier! And the signs keep appearing. Retail stores, libraries, services, restaurants and more.

This is clearly the sign America needs!

I want to challenge you wherever you are, this is fun and will take folks minds off the last year.

To my town of Keene New Hampshire, I hope you will take the challenge. You love people, you have creativity and you can do this! (I have sent this to some of you.)
