“The best way to solve problems and to fight against war is through dialogue.” – Malala Yousafzai
Words, sentences, paragraphs and stories. (Now if we can get politicians to engage in this topic…)
A few weeks ago I wrote about the “signs of war” taking place in Christiansburg Virginia. {{more}}
An update shows a viable Facebook group with over 28,000 members. It tells not just the story of signs, but also a tourism and shopper increase. Their popularity has been documented in hundreds of stories on radio, television and in print. There have been things put in motion to benefit literacy programs and more. The result has been other towns not only in the states but in other countries.
When I originally wrote about this, I felt it was important and something that need to be replicated. (And it has since I first wrote about it.) I thought the world needed more fun. More interaction. More engagement. (And let’s be honest, if you are a business, free PR is a plus.)
Thousands of people chuckle at the posts, drive to view the signs and engage in the process of having FUN!
Here in Keene New Hampshire, I reached out to some of my friends in business. Last week the first sign was “fired” by business owner, Brandi Wells of Soul and Shadow Emporium on Main Street in Keene.
I knew it would start sooner or later, and I put together a group, Sign Wars in Keene NH.
Shortly after calling out The Production House and Luca’s, Jennifer Willett of The Production House responded. Jennifer jumped out with a response and a call out to Arts Alive Monadnock!
The battle has moved slowly this past week and some stragglers have jumped in. (I have it under good authority that there is ammo and reinforcements being assembled.) But I imagine there are those who cannot resist a good fight. (And which “side” they want to be on!)
Let’s Have Some Fun
Engagement-
One of the greatest things to come from “sign wars” is engagement. (Don’t get me wrong the creativity has been awesome.) People making the reconnects that have been difficult over the last year for so many.
It has been fun and refreshing. (Only yesterday, I had someone say to me, who had seen Brandie’s window, tell me “that is so awesome! I am going to stop by there.” They had never been there.)
I have observed:
- Businesses having fun
- People enjoying the signs and the banter
- People wanting to see more and becoming involved.
- For businesses:
- Folks love what you are doing
- They want to see what is going on “inside”.
- They want to spend money with you
- (Let’s be real…this is some good PR. )
For folks on the outside:
- Let them know through your “likes, shares, comments and invites”.
- Visit their places of business when you can and let them know you like what they are doing.
- Spend money with them when you can as a tangible “like”.
- Invite others to play. (What business(es) do you want to see playing?
- And for all of us, let’s embrace some of the fun going on.
