“Look at the puppies”, my grandson, Jacob said as we pulled into the driveway.
We had just driven about one hour to Greentwist Acres, a small farm in New Boston, New Hampshire. It was a beautiful spring day, and it was a nice drive.
I had wanted to come over and see the Great Pyrenees puppies for a while, so Jacob being with us was a great excuse for my “animal fix”. {{more}}
Driving up the driveway, we could see the puppies and a host of other animals. The owner, Karina, came out, and after introductions, offered us a tour of the place.
First on the list, was the “pet pen”. 3 pigs, Luigi, Mario, and Princess Peach, and two goats, Cookies and Cream, occupied this pen. These are the animals not being raised for food. Karina gave us background not only on the animals, but on the feeding of them.
From there we went over to see a couple of the pigs being raised up for food. (They sell their animals to others, as well as arrange for the butchering of theirs, selling the meat from the porch.) From that pen, we could see turkeys, chickens, ducks(and ducklings) as well as the puppies.
Walking over to the pen where the puppies were, we were first introduced to the pups who have an Australian Shepherd mom (our farm manager, Bailey) and Border Collie sire. Many people call this crossing Border Aussies.
We then went over to visit the Great Pyrenees. Jacob made sure I didn’t put one in my pocket. (But they were so cute. )

Greentwist Acres strives to help people of all ages discover the wonders of the earth, themselves, and others through educational programs, farming, and land stewardship. We offer homeschool enrichment programs/workshops, music lessons, portfolios evaluations, music and farm parties, farm club, farm family fun, poultry products (duck, chicken, goose, quail, turkey), poultry and livestock guardian dog workshops, handcrafted wreaths/swags/ornaments, and Great Pyrenees breeding.
We are active in the local food and local artisan community and we are happy to help connect you with farmers and artisans and buy local!
They also offer, a Farm and Learning Center, workshops, enrichment classes, poultry products, hatchlings, hiking trails, and Great Pyrenees breeding.
But, when I say there is a whole lot more, I am not kidding. First, Karina was great at sharing about the animals, as well as making sure folks understand what they do. This is a small, working farm with a good understanding of what is needed to be done.
They also have an area on their porch where you can buy meats, eggs, bread and more.
As we left, Jacob asked when we could come back. “Soon.”
