At the Pawnee Museum on June 5, Native Americans and reenactors provided entertainment and education.
For sale was Native American food such as meat pies and fry bread.
Also at that booth was colorful clothing and blankets for sale. {{more}}
The Republican Valley Muzzleloaders set up their tents showing how the trappers and traders worked in the early days of the fur trade.
John KnifeChief and his son who were from Oklahoma danced Native American dances, similar to what the Pawnee might have danced in the early 1800s.
The museum is on top of an earth lodge floor, one of many on the grounds of the museum. Outside on the sidewalk are informational signs telling of the unearthed earth lodges, which are depressions in the grass.
The iron fence around the property is where the wood fortress was built for protection.
The Pawnee who lived in this area were called the Republican Pawnee, coined by the explorers in the region.
