The Government Shutdown approaches 30 days, and I wanted to put up some stories of people helping others, and offering help.

If your organization, business or community has a plan in place or is doing something to help others, let us know.

(I know banks and credit card companies have notifications on their sites, to help people.)

Kraft Foods wants to make sure that government workers currently on furlough during the shutdown do not go hungry.

On Tuesday, the food corporation announced it will open a pop-up store in Washington, D.C., from Jan. 16 through Sunday, Jan. 20, that will provide free food to government workers who can present the appropriate identification. The store is located at 1287 4th Street NE, two blocks from Union Market.

The church community in Dallas, Texas rallied around federal employees who are living without pay due to the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

As the partial government shutdown drags on, furloughed federal employees in the nation’s capital are enjoying a free hot meal thanks to celebrity chef Jose Andres.

Andres’ nonprofit World Central Kitchen on Wednesday opened #ChefsForFeds, an emergency kitchen offering complimentary food and coffee for government employees and their families. The pop-up opened on Pennsylvania Avenue, just blocks from both the White House and the U.S. Capitol, and served 4,000 meals on its first day.

Red Robin Feeds Pittsburgh TSA Agents, Air Traffic Controllers As ‘Thank You’ During Shutdown

“Red Robin really wanted to thank the TSA government workers who continue to work throughout the government shutdown,” Angie Wagner, Red Robin’s catering sales lead, told KDKA on Wednesday. “We appreciate their dedication to the country, and we just wanted to do our part to show that we support them.”

Red Robin says they are delivering 250 hamburgers to TSA agents here and on each of the boxes of hamburgers there’s a personal message of thank you.

Messages like “we appreciate you” and “thank you for your hard work.”

Regardless of your position on the shutdown, people are people and deserve our valuing of them. Many need our help.

Let us know what is going on that is good and positive where you live!
