Dr. Mike Nerney: Thanks for having me.

Host: So Mike, you’ve had a diverse journey from your early years to becoming the executive director of the Maine Baptist Association. Can you share a bit about the pivotal moments that led you to where you are today?

Dr. Mike Nerney: Diverse is really a good choice of words to describe this journey; in fact, as I was thinking this through and we scheduled this, I just realized that it was 25 years ago this week that my wife and I packed up a moving truck and pulled away from our house in Massachusetts, where we lived for 31 years, all our lives, and we left to attend a Seminary Full-Time in North Carolina. It was a blinding snowstorm. We were leaving Massachusetts and arriving in North Carolina the next day, and it’s bright and sunny and in the 70s.

Host: In your role as the executive director of the Maine Baptist Association, what aspects of your work bring you the most fulfillment and joy?

Dr. Mike Nerney: Yeah, I’m glad you asked that because I get the most joy when I can sit one-on-one with a pastor or he and his wife and listen to his current challenges and….

Chris LaFreniere

Chris LaFreniere

From an early age, Chris LaFreniere became interested in the written word, as well as finding his voice. He was quite regularly told by teachers, both in a positive way as well as a negative way, that his style of writing was akin to the way he thought. In one encounter with a teacher, she advised him that he should go into journalism because she believed he would do well.

Chris has been writing for close to a decade now, starting off as simply a way to get his views and opinions out via a blog, which over time has morphed into a more polished style as well as a new arena. One of which some individuals have referred to as “citizen journalism.” Writing is a passion for Chris and a place where he truly believes he’s found his voice. He also presently works as a copywriter.
