Vacation time is here. Kansas has lots to offer, especially historic sights and oddities. When traveling on I-80 or I-70, venture to US-HWY 36 at the top of Kansas. Coming down from Kearney, Nebraska, you will come across the Home on the Range cabin west of Hwy 8, where the author of the poem and then world known song originated. The cabin is open all daylight hours, and it gets visitors from all over the world.

Once on Hwy 36, go east to Lebanon, Kansas and see the Center of the Contiguous United States north and west of Lebanon. It has visitors worldwide as well.

Drop down south to see the Garden of Eden in Lucas, Kansas, a grassroots art town. The main attraction is the Garden of Eden. The house is now a museum. The owner made concrete figures and put them on a post rock limestone block house. Adam and Eve are there, and other figures, which all have a meaning to S.P. Dinsmoor, a retired Civil War Veteran. S.P. Dinsmoor is still there. He’s in a special house, and if you dare, and are up to it, you can view his body.

On to Abilene to visit the Eisenhower Museum and Ike’s childhood home.

Almost every town has a sight to see, whether the direction taken is north, south, east or west. Lindsborg is a Swedish town, Wichita has Cowtown, Fort Scott has a military cemetery and buildings.

Plenty of lakes to camp out all over the state. Hutchinson has a salt mine and a space museum. Dodge City attractions and further north is Hays with their fort. Something for everyone.
