Reason for having Patrick Cortis on the podcast:

Patrick Cortis Musician

Patrick Cortis Musician

I had Patrick Cortis on the podcast because I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow from a young kid with no spiritual direction into a talented musician who creates powerful Christian music. Patrick was once a part of the after-school program The Roc (Redemption Outreach Center), and I saw firsthand the transformation he underwent during his time there. Those were challenging times—full of ups and downs—but we were dedicated to nurturing the next generation, even when we didn’t always get everything perfect. Patrick’s journey is a testament to the impact that mentorship and faith can have on someone’s life.

Patrick has come a long way from those early days, now contributing to Christian music in profound ways, either writing songs entirely on his own or collaborating with others. By the time The Roc came to a close, he had evolved into a volunteer Junior Youth Leader, fully engaged in ministry and hands-on with helping others. His story reflects the growth and dedication we hoped to foster, making him an inspiring guest on Coffee on the Couch.

About Patrick:

Patrick Cortis with wings behind him

Patrick Cortis is a passionate worship musician who plays an integral role in his church’s worship team. With a deep love for music and an even deeper commitment to his faith, Patrick has dedicated himself to using his talents for the glory of God. His journey is one of growth, hard work, and integrity, traits that shine through in his dedication to his church and his music. Patrick’s responsible time management and unwavering work ethic make him a person of strong character, fully sold out for Christ. His involvement in worship is not about perfection, but rather about a genuine pursuit of serving God through his musical gifts.

Having come a long way from his younger years, when spiritual direction was absent, Patrick now fully embraces his role in his faith community. His journey from a volunteer junior youth leader to a key member of the worship team demonstrates his personal growth and dedication. Though he acknowledges that he doesn’t get everything spot on, Patrick recognizes that none of us will ever reach perfection on this side of heaven. His humility and authenticity make him a true example of someone continually striving to grow closer to God while helping others experience the same.

Chris LaFreniere

Chris LaFreniere

From an early age, Chris LaFreniere became interested in the written word, as well as finding his voice. He was quite regularly told by teachers, both in a positive way as well as a negative way, that his style of writing was akin to the way he thought. In one encounter with a teacher, she advised him that he should go into journalism because she believed he would do well.

Chris has been writing for close to a decade now, starting off as simply a way to get his views and opinions out via a blog, which over time has morphed into a more polished style as well as a new arena. One of which some individuals have referred to as “citizen journalism.” Writing is a passion for Chris and a place where he truly believes he’s found his voice. He also presently works as a copywriter.
