Phil Drouin-Woodworking That Is Art
Beautiful Chef’s Workstation with room for 3 cutting boards
All my life, I have loved beautiful pieces of art. Two of my favorites are wood and glass. In the early 70s, I sold handcrafted, exotic wood pieces and fell in love with texture, grain, and appearance.
Handcrafted items are popular because they exude authenticity, carry a personal touch, and often come with unique stories. They feel enthusiastic as they’re made with passion and creativity. They’re friendly because they connect people to the maker and foster a sense of community and appreciation for individuality.
As we come close to the holidays, I often visit shows (And will be at a few this weekend!), and am always drawn to wood, glass, and shiny. Many years ago, as I traveled around the country, I would look for those things.
Last year, I was at an area show in the middle of nowhere. While wandering around, I ran into a guy named Phil. He had some very cool woodworking displayed. I shared his name with a friend who has a store that sells kitchen and bath-related products. I told him about the show. Not long after that, Phil and his wife were delivering a gorgeous butcher block table and butcher block cutting boards.
Simply beautiful.
Phil is a veteran who came out of the white-collar world and loves to do woodwork. Recently, he has done shows in Ohio, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
He added wine stoppers to his repertoire. Beautifully turned, stainless steel, and gorgeous to look at.
Let me say Phil’s work is exquisite. It is well thought out with usage in mind. He buys and uses USA-made products (Like those stainless steel pieces on the wine stoppers) and loves what he does.
We are going to be offering his products, like his wine stoppers and boards on our wine pages and more.
Wine Bottle Stoppers in display
A few weeks ago, I connected him with my friend, Darren, co-owner of the Summit Winery. Darren bought some beautiful pieces to sell at the winery. He loved the work, the quality, and the beauty.
Yesterday, I went out to visit Phil at his workshop to have a conversation about the possibilities we might collaborate on.
Woodcraft products are timeless, blending functionality, artistry, and sustainability. They include furniture, decorative pieces, kitchen utensils, toys, and even custom art. Here’s why they’re special:
- Natural Appeal: The grain, texture, and warmth of wood give these products a unique aesthetic.
- Durability: Quality woodcraft items are long-lasting and often improve with age.
- Customization: Many woodcrafts can be personalized with carvings, designs, or finishes, making them one-of-a-kind.
- Sustainability: Many crafters use reclaimed or responsibly sourced wood, appealing to eco-conscious buyers.
- Handcrafted Charm: Woodcraft products often showcase the skill and creativity of the artisan, adding character and authenticity.
Perfect for gifting or adding charm to any space!
You must remember that these are one of a kind. They are not mass-produced, and they take a while to make!
But, if you want something beautiful and useful (As well as made in the USA), these pieces are worth purchasing.
