A happy family has found their perfect pup to adopt through Dog Star!

Dog Star Rescue, a 100% volunteer-based non-profit, has been a cornerstone of hope for homeless dogs in Connecticut and beyond for over a decade. Based in Bloomfield, CT, this remarkable organization has placed over 7,300 dogs into forever homes, making an incredible impact on the lives of thousands of animals and families. Whether it’s rescuing dogs from local shelters or working with partners across the U.S., Dog Star Rescue is committed to providing every dog with the opportunity to live a life full of love and care.

About Dog Star Rescue

Founded about 10 years ago, Dog Star Rescue operates with the dedicated support of volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure that each dog receives the care it needs while waiting for its new family. At any given time, the organization cares for between 70 and 100 dogs—dogs that come from diverse backgrounds and situations, each needing a chance at a better life.

Unfortunately, the need for rescue is constant and overwhelming. The demand for taking in dogs, both locally and from southern states, often exceeds the resources available to the rescue. Dog Star Rescue works to address this need by partnering with rescues in states like Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, and South Carolina to help save as many dogs as possible. They also take in owner-surrendered dogs from Connecticut when they have the capacity.

How Dog Star Rescue Works

Dog Star Rescue doesn’t just wait for dogs to come to them—they actively seek out dogs in need. The organization collaborates with animal shelters and rescues across the country to pull dogs from high-risk situations and provide them with medical care, fostering, and the opportunity for adoption. The team’s work is driven by compassion, commitment, and an unwavering belief that every dog deserves a loving home.

The adoption process is at the core of their mission. Weekly adoption events are held at their headquarters in Bloomfield, CT, as well as at locations throughout the metro Hartford area. These events provide the community with the chance to meet adoptable dogs and find a perfect match. If you’re interested in adopting, you can always visit their Adoptable Dogs page or check their Events Calendar on their website for more details on upcoming adoption events.

Dog Star Rescue at Pups and Pints

Dog Star Rescue will be attending the Pups and Pints event at The Bristol Bazaar on April 12th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to meet some of their adoptable pups and see firsthand the incredible work they do. Whether you’re looking to adopt, donate, or simply learn more about their mission, the Dog Star team will be there to answer your questions and share how you can support their efforts.

If you are considering adoption, Dog Star Rescue encourages potential adopters to submit an application at least a few days before the event. This allows the rescue team enough time to process the application and confirm eligibility. While they will try to facilitate applications at the event, this depends on resources and the responsiveness of vets and references. The adoption application can be completed online via their website here.

Ways You Can Help Dog Star Rescue

As a non-profit, Dog Star Rescue relies on the generosity of supporters to fund their life-saving work. Here are several ways you can help:

  • Volunteer: Dog Star Rescue is always in need of volunteers, particularly fosters. Fostering a dog provides a temporary home and a much-needed break from shelter life, allowing the dog to grow and thrive in a loving environment. Volunteers also assist with events, fundraising, and other aspects of the organization.

  • Donate: Donations are crucial to supporting the rescue’s mission. You can make a direct donation or check out their Amazon and Chewy wishlists to help supply the rescue with food, toys, and other essentials. With a new building recently purchased, Dog Star Rescue is actively seeking donations for their Capital Campaign to help fund the renovation of this new space, ensuring a better environment for the dogs in their care.

  • Attend Fundraising Events: Dog Star Rescue hosts several key fundraising events throughout the year, including the Rescue on the Runway fashion show brunch and their annual Golf Tournament. These events are vital to the rescue’s ongoing efforts and provide an opportunity for the community to come together in support of the cause.
