The First Hint of Fall

There’s a maple tree near my driveway that always jumps the gun on autumn.

While the rest of the trees cling to summer, this one sends out a single red leaf like a friendly wave. I found that leaf on the ground yesterday morning, and I’ll admit, it stopped me in my tracks.

At 71, the seasons feel different. Not heavier, just more meaningful. I’ve lived through enough of them to know they aren’t just changes in weather, they’re markers of time, gentle reminders that life keeps moving whether we’re ready or not.

But that little red leaf didn’t make me sad. It made me hopeful.

  • Fall has always been my favorite season. It’s honest. It doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not. It shows its colors proudly, even as it prepares for rest. There’s something admirable about that.

I picked up the leaf, brushed off the dew, and tucked it into my pocket. A small reminder that change can be beautiful, and that every season—no matter how many times we’ve lived through it—still has something new to teach us.

Positive Quotes
