Happy Thursday!

Today is…National Common Courtesy Day

National Common Courtesy Day is a day to focus on showing courtesy and consideration to others. It is about everyday small things that add up to make the world a better place. Showing common courtesy speaks volumes about a person’s character, takes only a small amount of effort, sets an example for others, and makes one feel good about themselves.

How to Observe
Be a part of today by being cognizant of the courtesy you show to others. No matter if you are with people you know or with strangers, and if others are being courteous to you or rude, this is a day to display as much common courtesy as you can. Here are a few examples of ways you can use some common courtesy and brighten the world, today and every day.
  • Greet others with a cheerful “hello.”
  • Say please and thank you.
  • Patiently wait your turn to speak, and give others a chance to get their point in.
  • Talk to someone who looks alone or left out.
  • Open the door for someone, and let them enter a building in front of you.
  • Let another driver go first.
  • Replace the toilet paper roll.
  • Take out the garbage if it is full at home or in the office.
  • Don’t leave dirty dishes in the sink.
  • Recycle, and make sure to rinse out your containers before doing so.
  • Let someone else have the last piece of pizza or cake.
  • Make a fresh pot of coffee if you finish one at the office.
  • Pick up garbage on the ground.
  • Give your seat up for someone who is pregnant or elderly.
  • If you are tall, don’t stand or sit in front of someone short.
  • Don’t talk on your phone or be distracting in quiet places such libraries.
  • Don’t use your phone while in a movie theater when a movie is showing.
