Drugs…

The very thought is…

Not very uplifting. Not very positive.

I see comments like that a lot when I post stories about the opiate/drug crisis and those who have solutions or have made a bad situation better.

I think what would NOT be uplifting or positive, would be not addressing the problems of drug addiction, the users and the families. Of not getting involved with people. Of not supplying help.

I quit drugs when I was 26. I had a big habit and ruined my relationships, destroyed my businesses and alienated those about me. One morning, after a night of use, I quit. But many of my friends didn’t. And they died. I wish there had been a community of people. That there had been a place to recover for my friends. That others cared in ways that were helpful. When I quit, I was told I was “too young to have a real problem”. That would have been easy to swallow had I not a $150 a day habit. That was 1981*. {{more}

Is there help out there? Are people getting involved? Are lives being changed?

Thankfully, the answer is a resounding “YES”. (Last year, I wrote about Gates of Recovery.)

We somehow think that the government is going to fix this, but all too often things “drag out”, monies misspent, too much talk and no action, and more. The good news is…Private individuals and organizations are stepping up to the plate to change things in the “sobriety” world

Reading through these great stories in our region of Keene New Hampshire, I hope it can be replicated elsewhere. These stories excite me.

I have a young friend, Tim, who I met through business (He owns CTRL Digital Solutions), but came to know in the recovery world as well.

Recently, he shared of his participation in a group called Realtors For Recovery.

This was his Facebook post.

Who do you know that is affected by addiction? Everyone is touched by this epidemic.

Would YOU like to be part of the solution? Of course, you would!

Support these Leaders of change!

Sept 24th 5pm
“Sharing hope…stories of Recovery ” WILL become an annual event due to the movement, Realtors for Recovery, that was started by Karen Kulberg.

Special shout out to Paula Baxley who is ALWAYS sharing her heart, resources and relationships with causes.

This evening will be inspirational, full of change agents who are making a difference AND resources to help you or your loved one get the help they need.

100% of the proceeds are going to local recovery and educational platforms.

Please join me in recognizing all the people pictured here and others who are not that will be sharing their stories of Recovery…

The next story appeared on our local TV station, WMUR. (It also involves my friend, Tim, and the organization, Live Free Structured Sober Living Keene, NH, he has worked with..)

When I first saw the video appear, I thought it was going to be more of the same, “negative” news. I was certainly pleased to see that it wasn’t.

Tim’s Facebook post accompanied the video.

Well this is pretty cool.

WMUR has competed a month long piece on sober living homes in New Hampshire.
Live Free Structured Sober Living Keene, NH was featured as the correct way to run a sober living home.

This is such an honor to be a part of Live Free Structured Sober Living and working with Ryan Gagne on his websites and marketing, as well as, having a hands on approach with the men at the Keene sober living facility.

3 years ago I went to Avenues Recovery Center New England and started my real journey into recovery. I’ve met life long friends, mentors, support, and family. It’s a blessing to be where I am in life now and be able to help those who helped me.

A couple of great stories about what can happen when people come together to solve a problem, rather than sitting on the sidelines.

Maybe you have a great story about the community coming together to better things. We would love to hear from you.
