Nobody died last night.
Lots of traffic through the night. But everyone slept well. My granddaughter dropped her water bottle onto my daughter from the bunk above, but other than, everyone had a great night. I awoke at 5, and the house was fairly quiet. But that only lasted an hour or so. The smell of bacon, coffee and blueberry pancakes, soon had everyone up, wide-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Breakfast was good, plans were made and the day goes into motion. {{more}}

Mom, please get me one!We headed towards the lake, with the sun shining, blue skies and moderate temperatures to start the day. As the amount of beautiful cars increased, my granddaughter, was ready to jump out of the van with excitement.

Believing I would get great parking, we found the 1 spot left, at the bottom of the show.

In front of yet another great MustangGoing up the stairs, we passed the fort, and entered the show. ($15 for 4 days and children 12 and under are free. Thank you Adirondack Nationals!)

We were soon overwhelmed by the shiny cars, bright chrome and sounds of cars out on the street. We watched lines of cars entering the show but a lot of the entertainment was the cars out on the streets. Burnouts and revving motors were everywhere.

One of the highlights of the show, is the nightly 5-hour cruise. (We will be there tonight.) The main street is shut down for the cruises and hundreds upon hundreds of cars drive down the main drag (And I do mean drag…) as people line the streets with vehicles and trailers with chairs, couches, etc. to view. The hotels and motels had folks with chairs on the sidewalks as early as 7 AM to begin the day’s watch!

My grandkids are infatuatedPeople were incredibly friendly. One man told me he had a 1964, 1100 HP, Mustang and if I was in Essex, he would give me a ride. (Walt, I just may take you up on that.) Others told my wife they were in this same campground and to stop on over.

One of the reasons I consider this so positive, is many of these cars are built by generations. A grandfather (Don’t get me wrong, it could be a granny! And let me tell you that my granddaughter would be the first one with grease on her face.), teaching his son to wrench, and bringing grandchildren into it. Many of the cars are in fact, owned by women. (The show actually has Girl’s Garage stars here and there is whole section dedicated to women.)

This was a car from an 18 year old girlAt some point everyone was thinking food, and so we headed back for a lunch of leftovers! (I took my power nap, and soon we were scheduling up for the afternoon.)

On the plate? More show, watch the cruising and eat s’mores.

A lot of funHeading down to the lake tonight, we could feel the excitement. We needed that one place to park. Believe it or not, there it was. Close to the end of the show we were going to do next! My wife’s knee had been bothering her and she said she was going to stay in the car until we went up to the main street. The kids and I headed over to the large field of cars, vendors and people.

The kids were a bit distracted as up on the street about large clouds of smoke thundering engines were playing as folks poured gallons of water onto the street to help the burnouts.

We wandered around the lower level looking at cars and vendors. Once again, it was amazing. I finally gave in to the children’s requests and we headed up to the street to watch the cars not confined to a parking space. After a bit, we decided to head down to where my wife was.

Darkness on the watersGetting to the van, everyone ate something and then we headed up to the main drag. We got up there and the streets were already packed with people. We found a great spot and then the cars moved out of way. Alyssa and Mariah headed down to get chairs and we were set. We sat there and reveled in the noise, the glittery cars and the beauty of the night.

Some might think, “what’s positive about fast cars, smoke and gasoline”. I watched my granddaughter read about a high schooler, who built her car, drove it two plus hours and placed it in the show. She was so inspired. She talked about it all night long.

We stayed quite a while and then headed back to the camp. My wife made s’mores and everyone had a great night.

One more day to go!

Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!!!
