Nobody died last night.
Lots of traffic through the night. But everyone slept well. My granddaughter dropped her water bottle onto my daughter from the bunk above, but other than, everyone had a great night. I awoke at 5, and the house was fairly quiet. But that only lasted an hour or so. The smell of bacon, coffee and blueberry pancakes, soon had everyone up, wide-eyed and bushy-tailed.
Breakfast was good, plans were made and the day goes into motion. {{more}}
Believing I would get great parking, we found the 1 spot left, at the bottom of the show.
We were soon overwhelmed by the shiny cars, bright chrome and sounds of cars out on the street. We watched lines of cars entering the show but a lot of the entertainment was the cars out on the streets. Burnouts and revving motors were everywhere.
One of the highlights of the show, is the nightly 5-hour cruise. (We will be there tonight.) The main street is shut down for the cruises and hundreds upon hundreds of cars drive down the main drag (And I do mean drag…) as people line the streets with vehicles and trailers with chairs, couches, etc. to view. The hotels and motels had folks with chairs on the sidewalks as early as 7 AM to begin the day’s watch!
One of the reasons I consider this so positive, is many of these cars are built by generations. A grandfather (Don’t get me wrong, it could be a granny! And let me tell you that my granddaughter would be the first one with grease on her face.), teaching his son to wrench, and bringing grandchildren into it. Many of the cars are in fact, owned by women. (The show actually has Girl’s Garage stars here and there is whole section dedicated to women.)
On the plate? More show, watch the cruising and eat s’mores.
The kids were a bit distracted as up on the street about large clouds of smoke thundering engines were playing as folks poured gallons of water onto the street to help the burnouts.
We wandered around the lower level looking at cars and vendors. Once again, it was amazing. I finally gave in to the children’s requests and we headed up to the street to watch the cars not confined to a parking space. After a bit, we decided to head down to where my wife was.
Some might think, “what’s positive about fast cars, smoke and gasoline”. I watched my granddaughter read about a high schooler, who built her car, drove it two plus hours and placed it in the show. She was so inspired. She talked about it all night long.
We stayed quite a while and then headed back to the camp. My wife made s’mores and everyone had a great night.
One more day to go!
Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!!!
