School is starting and lots of things are needing to be done. For many families, haircuts are a luxury.
And that is where one of the event organizers, The Barbery’s Owner-Barber Shalem Bencivenga, brought them out for year 3 of free haircuts for school children.
Along with fellow barbers, Whitney, Andy, Jaida Rachel, Jed, Paige, Kara, Kelly, and Karl were the stylist/barbers that volunteered.
Using borrowed tents along with usage of the Rec Center’s gazebo, tables, and chairs, this group cut hair. Originally planning to be there from 12 Noon-6 PM, they were there until after 8 PM. Shalem shared he personally did over 35 plus cuts. 150 haircuts is the unofficial number.
(The Keene Kiwanis were giving out bike helmets in one of the tents close by.)
Shalem told us “next year will be bigger and better with more volunteers, a number system to expedite cutting (People will not have to wait in line. Simply wait until their number is called.), a DJ with music and more games for the children.
