A few weekends ago, I spent time with a few of my younger grandchildren, as well as a couple of their friends. It was great. They are fun, receptive…and sometimes brutally honest. Two of my granddaughters love nature whether it be flowers, animals or birds. (They will pick up a snake as quickly as a grasshopper!)
One of them is super direct and unfiltered. I had asked them if they wanted to see the picture of a bobcat that had been taken in the neighborhood.
“I don’t like them. They eat rabbits.”
“Uhhh…What did you want them to eat?”
“Cat food…like other cats!” {{more}}
That is my life with children. Watching them have conversations that if you take the time will reveal character and direction. (We ended up having a good talk about wild animals.)
I appreciate working with children. I love their passion, their creativity and their thinking.
At Positive News For You and our sister nonprofit, PN4UINC, I often talk about how do we get the children involved in what we do. How do we help promote positivity in schools, is one of my topics? How do we get them involved in the understanding that we can be positive even when tough things happen? Most recently asking the question, how can I get them involved in the creative process of what we do.
I know there are young people out there who love story telling. Many have an affinity for those spreading kindness in their communities. How do we help them tell the story? Video, podcast, write or photograph.
I have seen the great people out there working with children, whether it be in school, the home or the kitchen.
My question is, how does PN4UINC and PN4U become a vehicle for these stories, and help parents, teachers and mentors with the process?
I would imagine that at the top of the list I need someone to oversee that piece of the puzzle. (It may be a bunch of “someone’s”.)
I think adding young folks to mix is so much more than a gimmick. I think it will add a dimension that will bring added hope to our future. I have always imagined getting young people involved in the process.
Admittedly, it was a creator who suggested a young person, and would I be interested in them in the process. Up until that conversation, I had “back burner-ed” the thought process.
What if we could do what I have wanted to do; which was to promote positivity and provide training in schools and such? What if young people picked up the creative process and covered stories about lemonade stands helping charity or young people selling items, with every other item going to charitable institutions to help the homeless and the hungry?
Have you read this far? Perhaps you are one of those people or know someone who is. I hope you will reach out to me and let me know.
