This week in the fall beauty, a marathon (And a half marathon.) will be run in the community of Keene.
The Clarence DeMar Marathon was established in 1978 to honor former Keene resident Clarence DeMar. The marathon has operated consecutively for 38 years.
My brother is a marathoner. I have followed him for years. This year he completed the Abbott World Major Marathon 6 Star including NYC, Chicago, Boston, Berlin, London, Tokyo. {{more}}
Marathoners are a different breed. My youngest son, Matthew, will be running a 1/2 marathon here in Keene. (Me? I am a walker!
I walk a lot, though.)
Today I was downtown and as I was parking I saw a lady setting up boxes of shirts behind Ted’s Shoe & Sport here in Keene. I walked over and introduced myself. I asked for a picture. This is one of the shirts, held by Ann Heffernon of Keene.
“If you want a fair, but fast course, usually perfect weather, great organization for aid stations, parking and getting to the start, and a chance for a marathon personal best, look no further. Beautiful scenery, nice shirt, and a nice medal.”
The Full Marathon begins in Gilsum, N.H. at 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2019. From the start line, you follow the route to Surry Mountain Dam, where you get extraordinary views and a chance to high-five your fellow marathoners.
The Half Marathon begins at the Surry Mountain Beach in Surry, N.H. at 8 a.m. on Sunday
We wish them all well. A great race is ahead.
