Coffee on the Couch
Reasons for interviewing James R. Elliot:
The decision to bring James R. Elliot onto “Coffee on the Couch,” a podcast proudly hosted through Positive News for You, was sparked by a unique encounter. James reached out, and through the ensuing conversations, it became evident that his philosophy toward his work aligned seamlessly with the positive and uplifting ethos of our platform. What set James apart was his unwavering commitment to providing value to consumers before delving into the complexities of profit-making, a perspective that harmonizes perfectly with our mission to inspire and uplift. Our conversation unfolded as a genuine exploration of James’s authentic approach, and it was particularly enlightening to witness him practicing what he preaches. Consciously, subconsciously versus yeah, yeah, I help people get what they want.
I get what I want.
No, no, you truly have to embrace that and embody that.
And I find that’s what makes the difference because it’s a shift in a frame, a shift in energy that you’re coming at people with, a shift in attitude, a shift in behaviors, and a shift in focus.
James: And, of course, your focus determines your behaviors and your behaviors determine your results.
I was like, Oh, I’ll do that.
I like the idea.
Well, I got my first freelance article, and I got the green light to write it.
The article was about how COVID-19 has affected small businesses.
And I got the interview. I did the interview.
I was working on the source material, and I got it to the editor, and the editor was like,
Yeah, we’re not going to be a good fit.
He just cut me right off and excluded me from all the stuff he had added me to.
We’re going to pass on hiring you.
Good luck with your endeavors.
And to say it was a bombshell at the time, I was like, wow.
Had I stopped there, I never would have been where I am today.
James: I bet that was a gift.
I bet that was the gift in the universe.
Host: It was, it was.
Host: Because I took that, and I said, you know what?
All right. Okay.I see you, buddy. I’m just going to go do my own thing.
And I got on Substack and I created a publication.

Chris LaFreniere
From an early age, Chris LaFreniere became interested in the written word, as well as finding his voice. He was quite regularly told by teachers, both in a positive way as well as a negative way, that his style of writing was akin to the way he thought. In one encounter with a teacher, she advised him that he should go into journalism because she believed he would do well.
Chris has been writing for close to a decade now, starting off as simply a way to get his views and opinions out via a blog, which over time has morphed into a more polished style as well as a new arena. One of which some individuals have referred to as “citizen journalism.” Writing is a passion for Chris and a place where he truly believes he’s found his voice. He also presently works as a copywriter.
