Ever have a child tell you they are “bored?” (My grandchildren learned that I had plenty of things for them if I heard those words, I could offer them something to do. They are bored no more!)
When I moved to Keene in 2013, I found plenty to do. Sports, culture, activities, music, and the arts. I love sharing all that we have here in this community.

I love being outside, so in moving here, I began looking for things to do. I found quickly that Keene was rated the most walkable city in New Hampshire due in part to a well-maintained network of hiking and biking paths. Most days, I am out and about. Behind where I live, I can connect with the trails along the rivers, through the woods, and to different parts of the community.
Are you a hiker?
Keene is surrounded by the beautiful New England countryside, making it an ideal destination for hikers. There are several hiking trails in and around Keene, including Mount Monadnock, one of the most popular hiking destinations in New Hampshire. Located about 20 miles from Keene, Mount Monadnock offers several trails of varying difficulty levels, making it a great destination for hikers of all skill levels.
And while I am not a bicyclist, my grandkids are and ride a lot.
For those who prefer to explore the outdoors on two wheels, Keene also offers a variety of biking opportunities. The Cheshire Rail Trail, a 42-mile trail that runs through several towns in the area, is a popular destination for bikers. The trail is mostly flat and paved, making it an easy ride for families or those who prefer a leisurely pace. For more experienced bikers, there are also several mountain biking trails in the area. (If you need some work on that bike, check out my friend, Bruce, at Andy’s Cycle.
On the water?
I love being on the water. I have boated and canoed for 60 years.
Keene is located near several bodies of water, including the Connecticut River and Spofford Lake. These bodies of water offer opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced paddler, you can explore the waterways and enjoy the scenic views. (You will also find that powerboats are on Spofford.
