It’s Hooray For Kids Day!
Today, we honor kids. Kids are the glue that brings us all together. We often share stories about awe-inspiring kids who are making the world a better place just by being in it. Hip, hip, hooray for the children! (There is a video of a baby who just laughs and laughs. If that doesn’t change your world, nothing will.)
Let’s laugh a little, smile a little bit, and think about a world getting better!
Today, we share stories of life-saving breakthroughs to joy-filled cat videos; today’s stories celebrate the wonder, resilience, and pure magic of childhood.
Feature Highlights:
- Justice with Heart
Speaking of children. ArsTechinica shares a story of what I will call the beginning of restoration. The courts recently determined a $200 million settlement in compensation to cover the medical and wellness needs of the survivors of exploitation. The Backpage website destroyed lives. This compensation begins healing for these people, most often children and women. Let dignity be restored.
- Purrfect Entertainment for a Cause
Cat videos? For years, people have watched those funny cat videos, enjoying the antics. AP News reported on this G-rated movie, and a portion of every ticket sale will be donated to animal shelters and children’s programs.
- Science That Protects Wildlife & Future Wonder
Poachers have long killed off animals for profit. Rhinoceroses have been on that list for their horns. The BBC reports a new way to combat poaching. Rhino horns are being safely tagged with radioactive material to deter poachers. This means any poached rhino horn will trigger alarms. Check out the Rhisotope Project.
- AI Advocates for Health Access
An RTP-based startup is using artificial intelligence to fight health insurance denials. This company has the power to help families obtain the necessary coverage to manage their medical bills. ABC 11 reported that statistics reveal that 1 out of 5 families have been denied coverage, and this company is here to change that.
- One Shot, Years of Protection
It was not that long ago that the mention of HIV shook people. Tulane University shares that a new study suggests a single dose at birth could shield children from HIV for years. This is a game changer in pediatric global health.
- From Dorm Room to Safe Haven
And our last story today. A feel-good story. In Australia, Sunny Skyz tells us the story of a compassionate couple who are making a difference in the homeless community. This couple has transformed an old dorm into a shelter for older women facing homelessness.
That’s all for today’s good news. However, perhaps you could share some of your great stories with us. When you see a great story in the news, please send it to us.
Hooray for Kids Day reminds us that every child is precious and holds the future in their hands. They deserve to feel safe, seen, and celebrated. A lot of today’s stories remind us that people make a difference. So, whether you’re a kid, raising one, or simply cheering them on, let’s invest in this generation.
