Foodie Erik Willis gets out and about, and heads over to The Smoking Trout in Marlborough, NH.
With gas and food prices being what they are these days my foodie adventures have been few and far between so generally speaking I find new places to go when I do venture out and share my thoughts about my experience.

The Smoking Trout Drink Menu
This past weekend I decided I was going to try out the Brunch at the Smoking Trout located at 288 Main Street in Marlborough NH. I walked in more or less when they opened and I had an Irish coffee to get things going. For my breakfast, I had the smoked salmon scramble with a side of home fries with onions.
It wasn’t terribly busy and the food did take awhile to come out but it was certainly worth the wait. The smoked salmon scramble was smoked trout on top of scrambled eggs with spinach whipped goat cheese and red onions. Absolutely fabulous! Also the first time that I have had a smoked trout themed breakfast.
A few other things of note. The bartender actually asked me if I wanted hot sauce. Usually I end up asking for it because I prefer it over ketchup. Sometimes it’s just the little things you know? The other thing I wanted to mention about my meal is that the homefries with onions were made fresh and also cooked up in two separate pans. When you have been to as many places to eat as I have these kind of things are very noticeable and certainly worth passing on. The Brunch is available from 10:30-2:30 on both Saturday and Sunday. Overall hours are Monday 5-9, Tuesday Closed, Wednesday through Friday 11:30-9 PM, Sat 10-9, and Sunday 10-8.
I highly recommend checking out The Smoking Trout in general and in particular for brunch on the weekends. Sitting at the bar whether one drinks or not lends itself to good conversation with the bartender and if you are fortunate the other patrons at the bar.

A few other things worth mentioning from my point of view that I view as a positive are the location, parking and the staff.
I love that it is just a few miles outside of Keene and extremely grateful that there is plenty of parking. It feels like a destination and not having to stress about a parking spot or walk a long distance or back out into traffic is such a breath of fresh air when I think about the dining experience from start to finish.
For some the hours may be limiting for those that want to go out but for this pushing 50 foodie being out much past 9 pm isn’t something I make a habit of anyways.
The other good thing about that is the staff is less stressed and it showed when I was there enjoying my meal. Seeing that staff actually want to be there was both encouraging and refreshing.
All of these things add up to me adding it to my brunch rotation at least a few times a year. My hope is that you will do the same after having read this article.
Until next time, Erik Willis
