The world of crafts is exciting for lots of people.

Recently, I posted about children and their friendships, and their connections to the world of crafts. All too often, we think of kids just staring at screens. But I never saw it that way.

When I was a child, crafts were a regular part of our lives. (Perhaps, because we did not have the distractions of the day, like we do now.) Throughout elementary school, we were taught crafts. We would make ashtrays (what?), candles, gifts, and often help each other with some of that fish paste!

We had to make our fun!

When I was a kid, I remember my parents making Christmas ornaments and gifts. Mt, y dad used to make wooden sleighs out of coat hangers and thin wood. My mom taught us to make clothespin characters by adding felt, glitter, and pipe cleaners. Add in those amazing candles and cigar boxes covered with macaroni and spray painted, and you had the formula for…

Rainy Day Activities for Kids

In Cub Scouts, I created a variety of projects, including Aztec masks, kites, and numerous woodcrafts. Years later, I attended the summer camp, Keewaydin, and crafts were part of our weekly activities.

When I became a businessman and store owner, I purchased many crafts from local artisans. I had people who worked in the jewelry, handicrafts, and other related industries. I bought many crafts from local artisans, as well as jewelry, handicrafts, and other related items. Some of my favorites were eagles carved out of moose antlers, puzzle boxes, and wooden toys. At one point, I started an artist’s cooperative.

When my kids were younger, I came up with a host of rainy day activities. Some days, it was a fort made out of blankets and card tables. On other days, it was stores with items fitted into cardboard shelving. I tried to get them to do a carnival like we did when were kids, but no bites.

Many years ago, my grandchildren wanted to make money. I made a trip to Michaels. I bought paint, brushes, and a bunch of wooden creations. My grandson, Jacob, earned over $500 in a few short weeks by painting birdhouses and selling them.

Some activities include cooking and developing recipes. Some days it is about board games. I have classic Risk, Stratego, and Monopoly. My wife is the card game person. As kids, we would play Monopoly for DAYS!!! Add in those crazy games like Mousetrap, and you are ready to roll.

I was the oldest of our family, and I used to put on magic and music shows with my siblings.

There is always plenty to do. What did you do for fun on those rainy days?
