A few weeks ago, I made the decision to hit up some of the local food trucks before the end of the summer here in New England. (I live in Keene New Hampshire.) I think it was a wise decision.

Last week I visited Hot Hogs BBQ. The food was great! (And the response to the article was amazing. Over a week later and it still is our most visited story.)

I mentioned last week that I have an affinity for food trucks. (I even owned one at one point.) Just today I was looking at the food truck round up coming up in Brattleboro Vermont. Last week I wandered around a local fair with my grandchildren that had all the fair food you might think about. (You know…cotton candy, fried dough, fresh squeezed lemonade, pretzels and snow cones, but I must have missed all the deep-fried Oreos, Snicker Bars, and such.) {{more}}

But back to the local food truck.

Keene continues to see good food coming, virtually from EVERYWHERE!

Today, I made the decision to visit another food truck, virtually across the street from Hot Hogs. I went to Salt & Lime. I follow them on Facebook, so I had a good idea of what to expect.

This is what I knew before from their website.

Salt & Lime is dedicated to making people happy through tasty fresh food that is fast, convenient and accessible. Owner & Chef, Isaac Kaufman keeps mouths watering with his scratch made dishes. We work with local farmers to ensure the sausages and street food we serve to you are free from antibiotics, hormones, nitrates and all the other nasty things we see in bulk made foods today.

An “organic” opportunity when it is available? Amazing! “Making people happy”? Even cooler.

I am always excited for food places that use local suppliers when they can and they do that too.

Salt & Lime uses the highest quality meat from local farmers. Our sausages are antibiotic free, hormone free, and all – natural [certified organic when available]. We feature pork from Archway Farms in Keene, NH & Crooked Creek Hollow Farm in Richmond, NH. (For more info this part of what they do, check their site.)

Chorizo Tacos. Three griddled corn tortillas with pickled onions, slaw & vinegar aioli. Because of the hot day, I added in a bottle of water. Pricing was good. They do take cards, and my order was on its way.

While I waited, I watched another 3 or 4 cars pull in. I heard them accommodate a “half order” of fries. In just a few minutes my order was ready and walked back to my vehicle.

The tacos were fluffy and crisp. The filling was more than enough. Chorizo was great. The pickled items were great. And the sauce tasty. What else do you say? They were gone in minutes and licking my fingers, I thought they were great.

I would definitely do it again!

Food trucks bring a casual atmosphere, but that does not mean it is not great food. The other thing that happens is people of all walks end up in the same line. Friendly, is the word that I think of. (The days of being scared are over!)

Check out the Salt & Lime on Emerald Street in Keene New Hampshire, to the left of Fire Dog Breads (79 Emerald).

I have a couple of more trucks to visit in the Keene area and then I am going to be moving out.
