The ministerial alliance raises money to help out those in need. On the new placemats, 14 designations were listed.

Help with bills and medication costs for those in need. Soles for Souls which provides new athletic shoes for school-aged children in need. Provide worship and Bible study for the elder-care facilities. Provide chaplains for the hospital. A weekly devotion printed in the local newspaper. Community Vacation Bible School support. Support the food pantry when funds are low. Encourage local congregations to collect food for the food pantry. Worship service at the county fair for the community. Support the high school Baccalaureate service. World Day of Prayer Service at the courthouse square. Providing food, gasoline or a motel room for transients passing through the community.

At the Smith County Free Fair in July, the service on Sunday is outdoors under shelter. Two churches provide the music and sermon. The offering that morning has went to purchase Military Biblesticks for all branches of the military. It is an audio New Testament with a 40-day listening plan.
One thought of how the ministerial association helps a community is to watch the movie, It’s a Wonderful Life. When George goes back to Bedford Falls after he wishes he’d never been born, he finds the town in disarray and out of control. That is a town without a ministerial association.
Sharon Black has been writing for many years including newspapers, short stories, and as a publisher. She was born in Nebraska and has lived in Kansas most of her life. In her hometown of Smith Center, Kansas, Willa Cather’s hometown is to the north and Bob Dole’s hometown is to the south. Sharon is a press release writer for the National Parks Arts Foundation, and writes for b U n e k e magazine. The biggest project she has accomplished is co-writer of the TV movie Home on the Range. The movie is about the song, which is the state song of Kansas and the lawsuit surrounding it in the 1930s, and finding the rightful author of the song. Sharon is distantly related to the Mississippi writer Eudora Welty.
