This morning in the radio station of WKBK, Dan Mitchell, Luca Paris and Ted McGreer, (And Tom Novak in the background.) took over the “What’s Cooking With Luca” show with…
A WINGS tasting.
Yep! 2021 Local Spicy Wing Challenge organized by Elizabeth Wood, a co-owner of 21 Bar and Grill and the Downtown Coordinator for Keene New Hampshire, the show followed the “take over” of WKBK studios a couple of weeks ago by Luca and Ted, while Dan was on vacation. {{more}}
First, the players. Dan Mitchell is the award-winning morning show host of WKBK. (The Broadcaster of the Year Award. He and Luca regularly do the segment, “What’s Cooking With Luca”.) Restaurateur, Chef and a winner on Guy’s Grocery Games is Luca Paris. And Ted’s Shoe & Sport owner, Ted McGreer! The common DNA? Premier supporters of Keene and the community. These guys go out of their way to make the community of Keene a better place.
Back to the food!
COVID 19 has made it difficult for many of the folks in the restaurant industry. This morning’s show was not just a cooking show and a lot of fun, but put a spotlight on some of the area restaurants here in Keene.
Elizabeth made the arrangements for the wings to be delivered to the studios this morning. The participants were Elm City Brewing Company, 21 Bar and Grill, The Machina Kitchen & ArtBar, Street Savory, and CC&D’s Kitchen Market. (Some of these folks were part of our “Adopt A Caregiver” program last year at PN4UINC, our positivity promoting nonprofit.)
The food was there. The team was there.
Lights, Action, Camera.
With masks, COVID precautions, and paper towels, the guys began the process of devouring the wings. Hot, spicy, and tasty! Washed down with some Elm City Brew, the wings disappeared. Now when you have a face “made for radio” no one sees you sweat. Facebook Live…Not so much. The sweat was on. As they moved up to the Tiger Wings, Dan bailed, but the heat master, Ted stayed in and Luca, well, watch the video!
I want to thank everyone for putting this together and participating. It is things like this that bring a smile to your face. Thanks to all these folks for making Keene a better place.
Video (The phone call with Elizabeth is not heard in the video. I have included the on air podcast so that you can hear the call.)
Podcast from WKBK. The audio version with the phone call inside.
With a football weekend coming up, maybe some of you in Keene can have your own challenge!
And if you don’t know Ted or Luca… They will be the ones who look a little “sunburned”.
It is my heart that others will follow suit in their home communities. Maybe we get a challenge to raise money for community endeavors. (I offer up our organization, PN4UINC, if you do a challenge to promote positivity and positive events.) Maybe it will take off like the cookie bakeoff between 2 dads. Or start a fund like Barstool Sports has been doing.
