A few weeks ago, I found myself doing something I’ve done thousands of times over the years. I was looking at the homepage of Positive News For You.
At first glance, it looked fine.
Stories. Photos. Articles. Headlines.
After all, that’s what a news website is supposed to have.
But the more I looked at it, the more I realized something important.
Positive News For You is no longer just a news website.
Truthfully, it probably never was.
When I started this journey years ago, I wasn’t trying to compete with newspapers or television stations. I wasn’t looking to become the next media giant. I simply wanted to share good things happening in the world.
Over time, something unexpected happened.
- People began connecting with one another.
- Businesses reached out.
- Nonprofits shared their events.
- Readers sent messages.
- Volunteers offered to help.
What started as stories became relationships.
And relationships became a community.
That realization hit me one morning while talking with a local business owner.
He thanked me for a story I had written years ago.
I honestly wasn’t sure which one he meant. There have been thousands.
He laughed and said, “You probably don’t even remember it, but it made a difference for us.”
That comment stayed with me.
Not because of the article.
Because of the connection.
You see, people aren’t really looking for another website.
- They’re looking for belonging.
- They’re looking for a place that celebrates what is good instead of amplifying what is wrong.
- They’re looking for others who still believe kindness matters.
- They’re looking for businesses they can trust.
- They’re looking for things to do with their families.
- They’re looking for people who care about their communities.
And that’s when it struck me.
The front page of Positive News For You shouldn’t simply say:
“Here’s our content.”
It should say:
“Welcome to our community.”
That’s a very different message.
When someone lands on our website, I want them to know within seconds exactly who we are and why we exist.
I want them to see that Positive News For You is about positive stories, certainly.
But it’s also about positive businesses.
- Positive events.
- Positive people.
- Positive change.
I remember years ago when I was first building websites. Back then, if you could get something online and make it work, you felt pretty accomplished.
Today people move much faster.
They make decisions almost instantly.
If a visitor can’t understand what you’re about in a few moments, they’re already moving on.
That’s why I believe our homepage needs to become simpler, cleaner, and more focused.
Instead of overwhelming visitors with article after article, we should greet them with our mission.
Something like:
Sharing Positive Stories. Celebrating Local Businesses. Building Stronger Communities.
That’s who we are.
That’s who we’ve always been.
We’ve shared positive stories for years.
We’ve highlighted businesses making a difference.
We’ve promoted community events.
We’ve celebrated everyday heroes.
The difference now is that we need to bring all those pieces together.
I recently thought about walking into a community center.
When you walk through the doors, you don’t see hundreds of bulletin boards screaming for your attention.
- You see a welcome desk.
- You see information about upcoming events.
- You see people helping people.
- You see opportunities to get involved.
That’s the feeling I want our website to create.
Imagine visiting our homepage and immediately seeing a featured positive story.
Not ten stories competing for attention.
Just one.
A story that reminds you why hope matters.
Then imagine discovering local businesses that support our communities.
Businesses whose owners coach Little League teams, donate to local fundraisers, sponsor events, and quietly make life better for people around them.
Those businesses deserve recognition.
Not because they bought an advertisement.
Because they’re part of the fabric of the community.
I also envision a place where someone can discover a car show, a church supper, a fundraiser, a concert, or a community festival happening nearby.
Over the years, I’ve attended enough community events to know one thing.
People are hungry for connection.
They want opportunities to gather.
- To laugh.
- To support causes.
- To meet new people.
- To celebrate life.
Positive News For You can help make those connections happen.
Perhaps the change I’m most excited about is creating what I call Community Champions.
I never really liked the word “advertisers.”
It feels transactional.
Community Champion feels different.
It recognizes the businesses that believe in positivity and invest in making our communities stronger.
Those are the kinds of partnerships I want to build moving forward.
The older I get, the more I realize life isn’t about accumulating things.
It’s about building something that matters.
It’s about creating something that outlasts us.
When I look back on the thousands of stories we’ve published, I don’t think about page views or website statistics.
I think about people.
- The reader who needed encouragement.
- The nonprofit that needed exposure.
- The business owner trying to make a difference.
- The volunteer quietly serving others.
- The family looking for something fun to do together.
Those are the reasons Positive News For You exists.
Those are the people who inspire me to keep going.
So yes, changes are coming.
Not because what we’ve done has failed.
Far from it.
Changes are coming because we’ve grown.
We’ve learned.
We’ve evolved.
And it’s time for Positive News For You to become what I believe it was always meant to be.
Not simply a website.
Not simply a collection of stories.
But a genuine community built around positivity, connection, and hope.
After all these years, I still believe good news changes lives.
Now I believe something else as well.
Communities do too.
