Happy Sunday!
Today is Worldwide Candle Lighting Day!
#WorldwideCandleLightingDay #CandleLightingDay
Worldwide Candle Lighting Day was created by The Compassionate Friends in 1997, as a way for people to come together to honor loved ones they have lost. The candle lighting is specifically dedicated to remembering those who have passed away in their younger years, such as children, grandchildren, or siblings. Candles are lit at 7:00 PM local time, so a wave of light travels around the world from time zone to time zone. It is believed that the event is the largest mass candle lighting on the globe. It started as a small internet observance, but there are now hundreds of formal lighting events, and thousands of informal ones.
How to Observe Worldwide Candle Lighting Day
The day can be observed by finding an event in your area and honoring a loved one who has passed away. If you would like to plan your own event there is a submission form you can fill out on The Compassionate Friends website. There also are some suggestions you can read to help you plan a candle lighting program.
