Roger puts together the Block Party[/caption]
Do you like music? Have you ever thought about being in a band? Thought it was impossible?
I want to tell you about “Join The Band”. No, this isn’t an app or a video game. Neither is it game to play with the family.
So…what is it?
A few weeks ago, I met a man in my community. He was getting ready to put together a block party in our town. With just a few days to go, he pulled it together. (Check out my article on “why we need positive events in our communities”. )
I found myself, really appreciating this man. (His name is Roger and he owns a business in our community of Keene. With a studio in the back!)
During a couple of our conversations, he shared his music from his band (The band is called Earth Colony.). He offered me a CD and told me to listen to it.
Let me say this. I have been around media for a long time and have played music since I was 4 years old. Many people have asked me to listen to their music. I think it is important that we encourage folks. (I have put on talent shows in my past.) But…as I got into my vehicle and looked at the cover, I thought, “Oh, well.”
I was surprised. Pleasantly surprised. I have listened to that CD (It is called Eden.) constantly over the last few weeks. I love the lyrics of a lot of the songs. I appreciate the playfulness of some of it. Some of it reminds me of Ringo Starr. Other pieces me of Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles and a metal band.
Back to “join the band”. While he shared about the band, his recent trip to Australia, and his business, he told me about his thinking about folks “joining the band”. (They even invite you “join the band” in one of the songs.)

And please email us the lyrics too, so that we can sing along!
Earth Colony receives numerous songs and we do our best to record as many as we can. €¯ If your song is a good match for everyone in the band, then we will put it on our schedule to record. €¯ Once we have recorded the drums, instruments and backing vocals, we will invite you to come to the Earth Colony studio.
Now it will be your turn to sing and record the lead vocals! ” At the end of the session, we’ll complete the final mixing and mastering process. ” Shortly thereafter, you will receive your completed song!

How cool is that?
For me, it is music, legacy and reaching out to help others. In my world, that is a win-win! I can easily see folks who have sung their hearts out in karaoke bars, showers and cars doing something amazing.
Roger told me that people who are already in bands have been reaching out to them, telling Earth Colony “this is a great idea. If you need more musicians to help record, please let us know!”
