Today was one of those unusual days, fraught with interruptions. What began as a day with plans, quickly revealed to me there were other forces at work.

I had picked up my son for our Tuesday coffee. We went into the coffee shop, ordering and sat down like we always do. Moments after we sat down, my son saw an older veteran (He turned out to be 82.) wearing an Air Force Veterans hat. He said, “thank you for your service” and that opened a door to the next hour of discussion with this grizzled veteran.

We soon found out he and I had much in common. Schools, geography and beliefs. An hour later, he thanked us for spending time with him.

Interesting…I forgot today was International Love Day!I dropped my son off at his place of work. Heading back into town, I stopped by the company that helps me with so much of my merchandise, Beeze Tees. I talked to my friend, Kyle about some new jackets to go with our Kickstarter project that will begin on Father’s Day.

You could be “bear-y” positive!

Leaving there I worked on tomorrow’s page and headlines. Did you know May 2nd is the Great American Grump Out Day? (You can check out some information here! ) I would love to see your smiliest “GRUMP OUT” picture!

I decided it was time to take a walk since it was so warm and the woods were calling my name. I headed out at a quick pace. Just getting down to the river my phone rang and it was the hospital calling to let me know someone needed to be picked up. (I am a minister and sometimes things happen.) I thought this day is sure getting interrupted. (Just a few years ago I wrote a book, The Interrupted Process. Hmmm…)

But, what I was finding was that each interruption was getting me close to people I might have missed out on. And for me, that is what keeps me positive. People. To paraphrase the Gerber company, “People are my business. My only business.”

While I was putting things together I ran across a story, with the headline, A special sisterhood: Knitting nonprofit aids breast cancer survivors. Another interruption. Why? Because it was only a short while ago that my oldest daughter was in a battle with breast cancer. I ended up reading the article. (You can see the link here.) It was about Debbie Thornton, her fight against breast cancer and her company and organization, Knitted Knockers.

Interruptions will come. People will enter our lives. Are we ready to change our schedule to accommodate the interruptions?

For me, I already know my answer. These are the interruptions that keep me positive.

Positive Pink Breast Cancer T-Shirts $15 each (Regular $17.50) 3X-XXL-XL-L-M-S

I am a dad who watched my daughter go through the pain of breast cancer. In part because of her, I have developed this program. With each shirt sold, I send $5 to an area organization that provides transportation, gas cards, medical payments and more. My goal is to donate $5,000 from the proceeds of these shirts in 2018.
