A Father’s Day Weekend! The Best!

I do not see my daughter, Amy, as often as I see others in my family. So, when she asked me to come up for the whole weekend, I was ecstatic.

Friday night, she and my grandson, Marcell, showed up. I had made a tentative plan for the weekend and decided that hanging out on Friday night was in the best interest of all of us. We both had a busy week, so we just spent time together on Friday night.

The next day, I had planned to go to the American House’s 5th-anniversary car show. Amy and Marcell decided to kick back with my wife, so it was just Jacob and me who headed to the car show.

It was beautiful weather and in support of those affected by Alzheimer’s. Let me say I hate the loss of the ability to be okay and watching people go that way.

Jacob and I headed over.

We parked and headed into the show. One of the first cars we saw was a DeLorean. It was gorgeous. Shades of “Back to The Future.”

The show was at American House. This is a great retirement place. And many of the residents were outside checking out the cars. (One woman said to me as I was taking a picture, “I am an antique! Take a picture of me!)

Jacob and I talked to several car owners. Most car owners are easy to talk to and love folks who are interested in cars. We saw several friends, and the weather was beautiful.

We headed home.

When we arrived, Marcell and Amy were ready to do something!

I took my normal 5–10-minute nap and then we headed over to the Home Depot store for a few items. We left there and I headed over to get my car washed. I love the car wash!

We came home, got ready and headed over to the Frogg Brewing! Why? These folks care about their community,

We drove over and got a table. Jacob and his cousin, Marcell wanted to play corn hole. We had great beers and drinks, and some snacks. We had a fun time and a lot of laughs. The folks at Frogg Brewing are amazing.

We came home, and Amy and I got ready to head out for her Father’s Day gift to me: she wanted to take me to Sole’s for a cocktail!

Soles is a “shoe store” speakeasy. Its actual name is Sole’s – Boots, Athletic Shoes, & Rubby Slippers. (Their spelling and not mine.)

We got ready and headed out.

The thing about going to a speakeasy is the atmosphere. I told Amy, it was on her. She picked up the pay phone and let it ring through. They asked, “How many shoes do you need?” Code for how man in your party. She did not know that and said “4.” 😊

We were let in by our hostess, Stephanie. We chose a high top and were greeted by our server for drinks. Mine a Gonzalez and Amy’s an, Aperol Spritz. Our location was fascinating as I was able to “wathch the door” and watch the skill of the bartenders. (I love watching the creativity and flair of bartenders.)

We decided on the Crispy Pork Belly to start things, and it came out with a house kimchi and a bourbon gochujang honey glaze. It was amazing!

It was a great catch-up time with my daughter. We talked about dreams she had to touch back to the world of event planning and her desire to start buying homes to Air BnB.

We ordered a Sole burger, a ½ pound of Black Angus beef. We ordered it with caramelized onion, whisky dip, and cheddar cheese. Medium rare, it was pretty amazing! (We split it.)

I can’t say enough about the professionals who work there, the atmosphere, and the food and drink. We were there for a few hours and headed home. I hung out with my grandsons and had a wonderful time.

The next day we got ready for our church gathering. It was a great morning with friends and family.

My oldest daughter came down after lunch and we all had a great time. Everyone was gone by 4, and I want to say it was a super cool weekend.

Family, cars, and great food and drink. A super weekend!
