On a perfect moonlit night, Friday, July 3rd, The Cedars of Lebanon, or Lebanon Housing Authority, sponsored fireworks. Judy Hall, the administrator of the Lebanon Housing Authority and Western Plains in Smith Center, asked everyone to stand for the national anthem. Local women sang it and everyone stood and paid respect to the flag. Patriotic music was played during the fireworks.

The People’s Bank of Lebanon and Smith Center also sponsored it, plus Linton and Julie Haresnape.

Kacee Herredsberg and her dad sold pop and Rice Krispy treats, plain and chocolate. The Cedars of Lebanon gave away free popcorn. Betty Pilcher, Ruth Warner, and Linda (Bill) Befort worked the popcorn popper.

The fireworks were loud and colorful. The smoke gradually floated away since the night had no breeze or wind. The fireworks went straight up into the air and fell as they should.
