Lt. Colonel Toby Quirk is a pastor and Christian author who has published two fiction books that are drawn from his deep well of two powerful motivations: his love of America and his devotion to God. Quirk‘s background includes four years at West Point, over twenty years in the Infantry, and over twenty years of Christian ministry.  In 1966, he took an oath to protect his country against any and all enemies, both foreign and domestic, but now he is aware that the Bible describes America’s most dangerous enemies as spiritual forces of evil.  This is the motivation behind his book series.

1. What themes and messages do you focus on in your books?
In my books, Proof Through The Night and By The Dawn’s Early
Light, I explore the theme of spiritual warfare and the battle
between good and evil. Through my stories, I aim to convey the
message that our world is not only shaped by physical and
intellectual forces, but also by unseen spiritual forces that can
influence the leaders of all our institutions. I believe that it is only
through the power of prayer that we can combat the negative
forces that threaten to tear America apart.

In particular, I focus on the idea that America’s redemption is
dependent upon the involvement of patriotic prayer warriors who
join forces with our divine commander, Jesus Christ, in his
victorious campaign against the forces of evil. I hope that my
readers will be inspired to join this campaign and to stand firm in
their faith, even in the face of adversity.

2. What has been the most challenging aspect of writing fiction?
Writing has always come naturally to me. The stories I write flow
effortlessly from my heart as the Holy Spirit pours His wisdom into
my overactive imagination, and onto the page. However, as an
author, my biggest challenge lies in reaching as many readers as
possible.

While I pour my heart and soul into crafting each story, I
understand that my work is incomplete until it reaches the hands
of readers who can truly appreciate it. I do not seem to have the
talent or ingenuity to make use of the marketing tools that are out
there. Despite the challenge of getting my books in front of
readers, I remain committed to my craft and driven by my passion
for storytelling. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my
stories with the world and to connect with readers who share my
vision for a better America.

3. What are your writing goals for the next couple of years?
While I don’t set specific writing goals for myself, I am currently
focused on completing three ongoing projects. The first is the third
installment in my Star Spangled Trilogy, following Proof Through
The Night and By the Dawn’s Early Light, which I have titled
The Twilight’s Last Gleaming.

In addition to the trilogy, I am also working on a separate novel
called I Can’t Live Here Anymore, which imagines a future
where the United States undergoes a gradual migration that
ultimately leads to a geographical and ideological division into
three separate countries: Pacifica on the west coast, Atlantica on
the east coast, and America in the middle.

Finally, I am in the process of finalizing a short story called A
State of Emergency, which serves as an allegory for a fictitious
primitive culture where the leaders create false crises to control
the village.

Although I am passionate about each of these projects, I do
struggle with completing them. Nonetheless, I remain committed
to bringing each of these stories to fruition and sharing them with
the world.
