Rev Your Engines: Adirondack Nationals Car Show Takes Over Lake George

September 2019 Adirondack Show

Rev your engines! VROOM, VROOM!

I am an old car buff. (That means I am 67 and have been doing this since my youth. My first car was a 1936 Chevy Master Deluxe at 12 years old. This was followed closely by a ’56 Dodge pickup and many Mustangs.)

This year I am headed to the 34th Adirondack Nationals. My VRBO rental is in place. (This is the first year I won’t be at the campground I have stayed at.) Just 5 minutes from the downtown area.

Here are some of the stories I have written over the years on this. There will be thousands of cars, people, food, and tons of fun. It has been a family affair for many years.

Someone asked me why do I go.

First, I have been going to the Adirondack region since childhood. I spent my early years on Schroon Lake. I love the lakes, the mountains, and everything in between. I have hiked, swum, boated, canoed, and enjoyed this area. I will often head over there, even if to grab lunch and walk around for a few hours.

Lake George has something for everyone throughout the year. One will find music, motorcycles, old boats,  and more. It is a great area.

Let me share a few thoughts on the Adirondack Nationals.

The Adirondack Nationals is a premier classic car show that takes place every year in Lake George, New York, and is a must-attend event for all automotive enthusiasts. The event showcases hundreds of vintage and restored vehicles, providing a unique opportunity to admire and appreciate automotive history.

Here are some reasons why you should attend Adirondack Nationals.

Classic Cars-(This reason alone makes it ALL worthwhile.)-The highlight of Adirondack Nationals is undoubtedly the classic cars that are on display. The event features a wide range of vehicles, including muscle cars, hot rods, antique cars, and more. Visitors can see some of the most beautiful and rare classic cars from different eras, making it a paradise for car enthusiasts. The vehicles on display are immaculately restored to their original condition, allowing visitors to experience a slice of automotive history.

Family-Friendly-Adirondack Nationals is a family-friendly event with activities that cater to people of all ages. There are kids’ games, food and craft vendors, live music, and more. Children can explore and learn about classic cars and participate in fun activities such as face painting, balloon artists, and more. Families can also take a break and enjoy the scenic beauty of Lake George while soaking up the classic car culture. (I have been taking family forever!)

Spectacular Setting-Adirondack Nationals takes place in the stunning Adirondack Mountains and Lake George region, providing a perfect opportunity to enjoy the area’s natural beauty while experiencing the vintage car culture. The scenic backdrop is ideal for taking pictures with classic cars, and visitors can also participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, boating, and more. (By far one of the most beautiful places to be.)

Live Music-The event features live music and entertainment throughout the weekend, adding to the festive atmosphere. Local bands and musicians perform a variety of music genres, ranging from classic rock to blues and jazz, providing a perfect accompaniment to the vintage car show. The music performances add a lively and fun element to the event, making it an enjoyable experience for everyone. (While at the show, the DJ is spinning the tunes.)

Awards and Trophies-Adirondack Nationals has an awards ceremony where the best cars are recognized for their outstanding appearance, design, and performance. The competition is fierce, with some of the most beautiful classic cars competing for top honors. Before awarding the trophies, the judges examine every aspect of the vehicles, including the exterior, interior, and engine. Winning a trophy at Adirondack Nationals is a great achievement for car owners, and it’s a matter of pride for them to display their awards alongside their vehicles.

Vendors-Adirondack Nationals has numerous vendors offering car accessories, parts, and memorabilia. Visitors can browse the vendors’ booths and find some unique and interesting items related to classic cars. From t-shirts and hats to car accessories and parts, the vendors offer a wide range of items that cater to every visitor’s needs. (i love the old car parts vendors.)

Charity-Adirondack Nationals also supports charitable causes through donations and auction proceeds. The event raises funds for local charities and organizations, providing a perfect opportunity to give back to the community. Visitors can make donations or participate in auctions to help support these causes, making it a rewarding and fulfilling experience. (One of the best reasons for supporting these folks.)

Networking-Adirondack Nationals provides a platform for networking and interacting with other car enthusiasts, experts, and collectors. Visitors can exchange ideas, learn about new trends and developments in the classic car world, and make new connections. It’s an ex cellent opportunity to meet like-minded people and share your passion for classic cars. (I love watching the conversations!)

Food and Drink-The event has a variety of food and drink vendors, providing a wide selection of options to satisfy your cravings. Visitors can enjoy delicious snacks, meals, and beverages from different food vendors, including hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, and more. The vendors also offer a variety of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages.

Fun-Filled Weekend-Adirondack Nationals is a fun-filled weekend of events and activities, perfect for car lovers and families looking for a great time in a unique setting.

One of the tips I am going to make is know that parking is sometimes difficult, and I recommend being prepared for it. Currently, meters take coin, and some work on Parkmobile, while others require finding the closest kiosk. If you plan on spending more than a couple of days, you can purchase a parking pass.

My wife and I, along with kids and grandkids, have invited friends who have joined us. At about 6 PM, they will shut off the main street, and cars will begin to “parade” up and down along the beach and the main drag. In advance, it has the tendency to be loud and occasionally a bit wild. But the people are amazing. We bring in our camp chairs and a cooler and will sit there and enjoy the passing vehicles for hours.

Add in the food in the area, and everything is pretty amazing. Some of our favorites are A&WProspect Mountain Diner, Monte Carlos, the Boardwalk and morning coffees at Caffe Vero.

The only real downside is time flies!

I hope you make it over there.
